How to use our Services

If you have an Emergency or require a Home Visit, see the Home page

Seeing a DoctorDr. Marcus Brudenell
You can make an appointment to see your doctor by telephoning the surgery 01328 737000 at any time during opening hours.  If your usual doctor is not available, you can make an appointment to see another of the Practice doctors.
If you need to see a doctor on the same day at the Surgery, please ring at 8.00
am for an appointment.  There is also an emergency surgery at 5.00pm on Monday to FridayPlease ring and make an appointment for the emergency surgery.

Telephone Appointments
You can now ring and make an appointment to talk to your Doctor on the 'phone. Just ring Reception on 01328 737000 and ask for a 'phone appointment.

Seeing a Nurse
If you need to see a Nurse appointments can be made in the usual way through Reception, or by referral from your Doctor . . . . also see the Clinics page for available services.

If you are unable to keep any appointment with a Doctor or a Nurse, please let us know, even at the last minute, as we can then fit an urgent case into your empty slot.

Prescriptions
The Surgery offers a dispensing service during opening hours to patients living more than a mile from the chemist in Burnham Market and who wish us to do so.  Dispensary is closed between the hours 1pm- 2pm.
NHS Prescription Charges.  You will be expected to pay for each item dispensed when you receive it, and at the rate prevailing at the time, or against a pre-payment certificate.  The Government, not the Practice, sets the charges.

Repeat Prescriptions
If you are on regular medication you will be issued with a repeat prescription slip.  You should use this slip to order your next supply by taking it to the Surgery orBrrrr! brrrr!     Brrrr! brrrr! leaving it at your nearest village collection point .  A message can be left on the Dispensary's dedicated prescription line 01328 737002.  You can also fax your prescription request on 01328 730104.   If you send a stamped addressed envelope, we will send your paper prescription to you.

Non-dispensing prescriptions take one full working day and please collect after 2pm.  Dispensing prescriptions take two full working days, again please collect after 2pm.  Please allow three full working days if sending to one of the village collection points. (see below)

On your Repeat Prescription Form you can arrange to collect your medicines direct from the Dispensary at the Surgery or you can have them delivered to your nearest delivery point where they can be collected at your convenience.  There are collection points at Burnham Deepdale Costcutters, Thornham New Shop, North Creake P.O. and Docking Mini-Supermarket where you can also leave your prescription for collection.   This is a delivery and collection service manned entirely by volunteers.

The Dispensary is open 8.30am through to 6.00pm Monday to Friday. 

On the Repeat Prescription Form is a date for your Medication Review.   Please make an appointment to see your Doctor at this time before ordering your next supply of medicines.

Visitors to our Area
If you are a visitor to the area, or have friends or relatives staying with you who need medical attention, we will be pleased to help.  If you are a citizen of the European Union, or you live in a country with which the UK has a reciprocal arrangement to provide medical services, your consultation will be free.  Countries with a reciprocal arrangement with the UK are Anguilla, Australia, Barbados, Virgin Islands, Bulgaria, Channel Islands, Czech Republic, Falklands, Hungary, Isle of Man, Malta, Montserrat, New Zealand, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovak Republic, St. Helena, Turks and Caicos Islands, USSR and Yugoslavia.    However, a charge will be made to patients from countries other than those already mentioned.

New Registrations
The Burnhams Surgery welcomes new registrations.  Please call in at the Surgery and ask at Reception for a registration form.  When you have completed the form, a Receptionist will make an appointment convenient to you during the AfternoonNew Registrations Nurses Clinic for your health check and you will be entered on to one of the doctors' lists at this time.

Non NHS Services
The Practice offers a range of non-NHS services and the current British Medical Association recommended fees are charged.  These services include medical examinations for driving, insurance, travel, private medical certificates and medical reports.  Appointments for these services should be made outside of normal surgery consultation hours.  Please make your wishes known to a Receptionist who will help you to decide who it is you want to see.

Reception Staff
When you ring our Surgery the 'phone will be answered by the  Reception staff, who are well trained as Medical Receptionists in dealing with incoming calls.
They will ask you for some details in order to most efficiently help with your enquiry, but please remember that their job can sometimes be difficult and they are always busy.

Confidentiality
When you visit our Surgery, we ask you for information that ensures you receive our best care and treatment and, because it may be needed if we see you again, we keep this information together with details of your care and treatments on our computer database.
Everyone working for the NHS has a legal duty to keep this information confidential.   We only ever use or pass on information if people have a genuine need for it in your and everyone's interests.  Whenever we can, we shall remove details which can identify you.
If you would like to know more about how we use your information you can speak to the Doctor or Nurse in charge of your care or to our Practice Manager, Pat Layton. 
Sickness Certificates
Certificates signed by your Doctor are only required if you are away from your place of work for more than 7 days.
For absences of up to 3 working days, no certificate is required.
For absences of 3 to 6 working days, a Self Certificate is required which you obtain from your Employer.
