Burnham Market Area Community Car Scheme
Report on the first year of operation - 1st
June 2004 to 31st May 2005
from
Daphne Potter - Scheme Co-ordinator

We have just completed our first year and are now
working between Wells-next-the-Sea to the east and Holme village to
the west. Inland we cover Stanhoe to the Creakes taking in the
Burnhams and Holkham and we also take passengers to the Docking and
Hunstanton surgeries.
Working closely with the Burnham Market Surgery
where most of our journeys originate, we regularly take passengers
to hospitals in Cambridge, Norwich, King's Lynn, Cromer, Kelling and
the Physiotherapy department in Wells Cottage Hospital. We
take people to Residential Care Homes and to Tapping House in
Snettisham as well as to dentists, opticians and chiropodists.
With our increased number of journeys we are
looking for more drivers. If you can help please contact
Daphne Potter, Co-ordinator on 01485 210342. You will receive
40p per mile.
The Scheme will be re-locating to a permanent
office in Holme Village Hall. The Holme Parish Council and the
Village Hall Management Committee have upgraded what was an upstairs
storeroom into a fully insulated and decorated room as their very
generous contribution to the Scheme. We hope to move at the
end of the Summer.
Initially we were funded by the Countryside Agency
and have received donations from the individual parishes we work in,
the Burnham Market Surgery, the Primary Care Trust, the Borough
Council of King's Lynn and West Norfolk, local benefactors and fund
raising events. Unfortunately, the funding from the
Countryside Agency stopped in March and our major project is to find
funding to enable the scheme to continue. |
